About Us

History

The New Orleans Eat Local Challenge began in 2010 as a 30 day celebration of local food. Every June participants were encouraged to consume food and beverages grown, raised, caught, processed, brewed, or distilled within a 200 mile radius of New Orleans. A variety of events coupled with educational workshops, happy hours, discounts, and featured dishes from local restaurants help to ensure this event is a success year after year!

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, no in-person events took place in 2020.

Beginning in 2021, the Eat Local Challenge has shifted to include events throughout the year!

As of 2019, the New Orleans Eat Local Challenge is a program of the New Orleans Food Policy Advisory Committee (FPAC). FPAC is a broad-based coalition of individuals, businesses, and organizations working together to shape public policy for an equitable and sustainable future. FPAC aims to educate participants on the benefits of eating local and hopes to show participants that eating local is a way of enriching a diet, not restricting it!
